The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a 9-month, annually renewable, non-tenure track position for the Stamford regional campus at the rank of Assistant Professor in Residence. The HDFS Department has 32 full-time tenured, tenure-track, or teaching faculty from diverse disciplinary backgrounds and over 600 undergraduate majors. Faculty are located across the state at four campuses where the Department offers the HDFS major: the main campus in Storrs, and regional campuses in Hartford, Stamford, and Waterbury. The Stamford campus is located in downtown Stamford, CT, just over an hour from New York City, and about two hours from the main campus in Storrs. The candidate for this position will join three full-time HDFS faculty at the Stamford campus. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses, which may include courses related to early childhood development, family, diversity, and/or research methods. The teaching load will be seven courses across the academic year or the equivalent – three courses for one semester and four courses for the other semester. The successful candidate will also be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students in the major and minor, and perform service to the department and/or campus as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Doctoral degree in HDFS or related area by position start date. Demonstrated excellence and experience in teaching. Commitment to working with a diverse student body.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience teaching courses on early childhood development, family, diversity issues, and/or research methods; teaching within an urban campus setting. Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or mentoring first-generation, minority, or non-traditional college students. Effective communication skills (both written and oral). Ability to engage productively and collegially with faculty across disciplines.
APPOINTMENT TERMS This is a 9-month, annually renewable, non-tenure track position, which may lead to a multi-year contract in the future. The anticipated start date is August 23, 2018, with the possibility of a January start date. This position does not lead to permanent academic tenure. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
