Job Summary

The supervisor is held responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory procedures within his/her section and supervises technologists, technicians and other related personnel, schedules work duties and supervises performance of such duties.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibility/Standard

Supervises and directs all technical and non-technical personnel.

• Completes and discusses evaluations by first working day of anniversary month.
• Completes and discusses disciplinary actions within 48 hours of incident
• Completes payroll before deadline with 98% accuracy
• Monitors absenteeism and tardiness noting effects on other personnel and section operation

Schedule work duties

• Justifies overtime in writing within three working days
• Schedules staff, monitors and maintains budgeted hours including overtime
• Constantly reviews and improves systems for increased efficiency and eliminates rework and waste.

Responsible for all technical work performed

• Stats completed within one hour 98% of the time
• Argents completed within three hours 98% of the time
• Routines completed within acceptable time frame

Assures that licensing and accreditation requirements are in full compliance

• Participates and passes all proficiency testing
• Stays within federal and state guidelines
• Ensures all procedure manuals are up to date
• Reviews procedure manuals annually

Assists in planning and monitoring operating and capital budgets

• Submits capital equipment list with appropriate justification on date due
• Responsible for maintaining a balanced budget with written justification for negative or positive variances within 30 days of distribution
• Maintains and controls supply and reagent inventory
• Participate in at least one TQM-CQI project

Inter/Intra-Departmental Committees

• Participate in at least one committee during year

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

Required Education and Experience

BS in biology, chemistry or other related field or equivalent experience, with MT ASCP, NCA or other related certification or eligible.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Supervisory experience preferred.

Five years of practical laboratory experience including instrumentation preferred.
