Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences South Dakota State University (SDSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. About the University South Dakota State University (SDSU) is dedicated to exceptional teaching and learning, scholarship, research, creative activity, and transference of knowledge through Extension programming for the benefit of students, and the citizens of South Dakota and beyond. With almost 600 faculty, serving nearly 11,500 students, SDSU offers a diverse number of academic colleges including: College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Education and Human Sciences, College of Natural Sciences, Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College and the Graduate School. SDSU is defined as a “Doctoral University, High Research Activity” within the Carnegie Classification and in 2014 was designated an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. As the state’s 1862 land-grant university, SDSU plays a key leadership role in the state and the region in conducting research, disseminating knowledge, supporting innovation and business incubation, forming partnerships with industry, and advocating for economic growth and development. SDSU awards graduate degrees through 15 Ph.D. and 33 Master’s programs and has the most active university research program in the state with more than $67 million in annual research activity. About the Position Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the College’s chief academic and administrative officer. SDSU seeks an energetic academic leader with practical strategic vision, significant successful administrative experience as well as outstanding academic credentials and strength in fostering excellence in teaching, research/scholarship, and engagement. The College serves 1,900 students with a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The College consists of the departments of Consumer Sciences, Counseling and Human Development, Health and Nutritional Sciences, and Teaching, Learning and Leadership. The four departments offer 16 different majors, 19 different minors and certifications, and 13 nationally accredited programs. The College also serves students within BHSU-Rapid City. This center is a satellite facility in the beautiful Black Hills region of South Dakota that specializes in bringing graduate-level education and career-enhancement opportunities to nontraditional students and educational professionals. The mission of the College is to enhance human potential by centering on the improvement of human life and community through the promotion of mental, physical and financial health. Qualifications The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate and a distinguished record of academic performance consistent with appointment as a tenured full professor in a discipline appropriate to the College. The next Dean will be a visionary person of proven leadership ability, high integrity, a strong record of successful research and scholarship activity, as well as successful administrative leadership in a complex environment and a commitment to furthering the mission of a land-grant university. The Dean will be an experienced, entrepreneurial, creative, and collaborative leader, with a deep appreciation of the diverse disciplines represented in the College, and have a passion for providing an outstanding educational experience to all students.
