The Neurodiagnostic Technician 3 will perform advanced electroneurodiagnostic procedures on neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and advanced procedures that include, but are not limited to, pediatric and neonatal electroencephalogram (EEG), ambulatory EEG studies, epilepsy monitoring, all modalities of Evoked Potentials, and nerve conduction velocities (NCV), if procedures are provided at that facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs neurodiagnostic testing with patients using proper techniques for placing and attaching the electrodes and for positioning the patient. Compiles statistics from tests performed.
Assists neurology physicians during lab procedures.
Educates patients on procedures, and elicits and records medical history from patients and charts.
Performs accurate neurodiagnostic recordings in a hospital setting with the ability to transport machine carefully and safely.
Ensures that the EEG testing area is maintained in a clean and sanitary condition at all times. Performs routine maintenance on equipment, to ensure that EEG equipment is sanitary and properly functioning at all times.
Transports patients to and from EEG NeuroDiagnostic Lab, in accordance with proper safety techniques.
Assists with creation and updates of lab written protocols. Adheres to internal controls established for department.
Review billing and patient care issues.
Expands knowledge of current and new neurodiagnostic techniques and related procedures by participating in conferences, in services and independent study.
Provides clinical documentation of patient information.
Is available for On Call as assigned.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Advanced understanding of neuroanatomy and physiology, neurodiagnostic instrumentation, pattern recognition and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the neurodiagnostic recording.
Requires knowledge of appropriate infection control standards for the department and hospital.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.
