Position Summary:

University of New Mexico Hospitals Lifeguard Emergency and Critical Care Transport program seeks a motivated and self-directed professional to join our Team as RRT – Primary Team.

As an extension of New Mexico’s only Level 1 Academic Medical Center, Lifeguard brings advanced skills and medical therapies to bedside such as Nitric, and ECMO cannulation. We serve residents of New Mexico throughout all regions of the State and boarding communities. Lifeguard partners with EMS Consortium Fellowship and Emergency Medicine programs, offering education and training in Transport Medicine to future physicians.

Our Physician partners are “one of the team” bringing together a multidisciplinary approach to the field of Critical and Specialty Care Transport. Our primary team cares for patient population age 24 months through twilight years. If you have what it takes to be a part of this dynamic group of medical professionals we would like to meet you.


Function as a consultant, educator, practitioner and/or researcher in a specialized area of respiratory care. Use respiratory modalities and procedures to assess and care for patients within the specialized area. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age groups.
Accountability:
  • PATIENT CARE - Provide direct cardiopulmonary care to patients in assigned area

  • PATIENT CARE - Provide patients education and consultation on disease management

  • MEDICATIONS - Administer medications, including IV medications, as ordered by physician via the Five Rights; document and communicate clinical findings

  • COORDINATION - Consult with physicians to ensure quality of patient care within area of specialty

  • QUALITY - Assume responsibility for portions of the quality control programs

  • EQUIPMENT - Coordinate all equipment and supplies for the specialty area; service malfunctioning equipment, develop inventory/stock PAR levels and order supplies; maintain adequate stock level

  • EQUIPMENT - Develop respiratory instrument trays for each procedure in the specialty area; inspect instruments, order instruments, and coordinate instrument repairs as necessary

  • EDUCATE - Advance clinical knowledge by participation in educational opportunities; educate appropriate staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments for their service; coordinate in-service training/workshops for appropriate staff

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE - Ensure customer and patient satisfaction using scripting procedure

  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes

  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk

  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner

  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

    • Education Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree in related discipline

    • Experience Requirements:
  • 1 year directly related experience

  • Addendum - 3 years clinical experience in an ICU or ED setting

    • Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credentials from the National Board for Respiratory Care

  • Addendum - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner in State of New Mexico

  • Addendum - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

  • CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification or must be obtained within 6 months of date of position

  • Addendum - National Certification w/in 1 year of position

  • Addendum - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification

  • Expanded Practice Credentials Board Verification

  • Addendum - STABLE w/in 1 year

  • Addendum - Trauma Course w/in 1 year of position

    • Education Requirements - Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline

    • Experience Requirements - Preferred:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo

  • 2 years directly related experience

    • Physical Demands Requirements:
  • Addendum - Maximum weight 225 pounds, ability to climb, squat, carry 30 pound bag, ability to lift 200 pound patient on backboard with one other person

  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

  • Addendum - Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work.

    • Licensure/Certification Requirements - Preferred:
  • Addendum - Instructor Certification in course such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.

    • Professional licensure as appropriate to the clinical objectives of the unit:
  • Addendum - Instructor Certification in course such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.

    • Testing Requirements:
  • Tuberculin Skin Test required annually

    • Working Conditions Requirements:
  • Sig Hazard: Chemicals, bio hazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and may require protective equipment

  • Addendum - May be required to travel to various work sites

  • May be required or is required to perform on-call duties

  • Addendum - May be required or is required to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends

  • Addendum - Work environment is Helicopter, Airplane or Ground Ambulance

  • Addendum - Working in confined space or unusual positions

  • Addendum - May be required or is required to perform on-call duties
