Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Staff Speech Pathologist.
In this role, the successful candidate Assists Program Manager in the provision of staff training programs, equipment management, development and procedures/protocol and outreach for the Safe Patient Handling (SPH) Program across all NYULMC sites. Demonstrates an understanding of the goals of the SPH program and works to achieve program objectives.

Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Behavioral Competencies and Competency Framework and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Responsible for submitting daily records, prepares monthly reports. Prepares monthly reports and submits to Director and program manager on a timely basis for review. Prepares minutes and/or provides records of unit based and other formal training sessions and interdepartmental meetings. Oversees departmental records and audits files as needed. Instructs and provides feedback to staff regarding SPH standards and procedures. Oversees the purchase, storage or maintenance of supplies and equipment for SPH program and makes related recommendations. Maintains records of purchases and received equipment. Delegates responsibilities for routine care and maintenance of supplies and equipment to unit staff and managers.
Assists Program Manager in development and implementation of new procedures or programs under supervision of the Director. Reviews and updates procedures according to changing programmatic needs. Communicates changes in procedures to all levels of staff, monitors implementation of changes. Considers and encourages suggestions from staff to upgrade quality of program. Suggests new programs to respond to changing patient care needs, equipment advances, changes in health care delivery and capabilities of staff. Identifies problems and plans for future needs (re: space, time, resources, health care delivery, and capabilities of staff.). Reviews departmental goals and direction with Program Manager.
Assesses, directs, and implements intervention for selected patients referred for assessment of SPH needs. Uses medical and social history to determine requirements for and constraints impacting the SPH recommendation. Interviews patient and caregivers to verify and obtain information, determine functional communication ability, and ensure patient understanding of need for use of SPH equipment. Conducts SPH evaluations and training for staff and caregivers as needed. Provides concise relevant documentation regarding SPH recommendations and communicates with team. Ensures knowledge translation re: SPH practices for staff and caregivers. Conveys recommendations for patient management made by staff to referring physician and other medical caregivers as needed.
Monitors all SPH activities and assists Program Manager in coordinating smooth flow of activities in the SPH program at all sites. Receives and processes requests for training, prioritizes scheduling of training and unit based SPH assistance and supervises the implementation of established patient care procedures. Meets with assigned staff and with other departments as necessary in order to evaluate and maintain SPH program progress and monitor needs. Monitors use of SPH equipment and processes. Maintains accurate records and ensures accurate and timely documentation of training and care performed by SPH staff.
Educates staff on designated services, units, and departments re: equipment, processes, and regulations related to Safe Patient Handling. Develops training materials in a variety of formats to meet the needs of all learners. Documents frontline staff performance and competence with SPH in clear, concise, manner. Provides frontline training for staff at all sites and on all shifts, and assists with use of SPH equipment at bedside and during routine patient care as needed. Guides and counsels staff toward performance improvement and or development related to SPH. Communicates performance difficulties related to SPH to the Program Manager.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a MA/MS degree in Speech-Language Pathology; CCC-SLP form ASHA and NY State license in Speech Pathology. Continuing education required NYS for maintaining licensure..
Preferred Qualifications: NYS Certification as Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD).
