DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

As one of the leading vaccine centers in the world, the Vanderbilt Vaccine Center is recognized for broad expertise in basic and clinical discovery related to understanding and optimizing disease prevention through vaccination. The VVC hosts faculty who study viral and bacterial pathogens (including pathogens related to biodefense and emerging infectious diseases), and those who study the immune responses to vaccines and their related pathogens at the molecular and cellular level. VVC faculty members also work collaboratively with a number of faculty members in other departments and centers at Vanderbilt.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under supervision, run experiments, assays, and record results
• Read and follow experimental protocols (May include protein purification, tissue culture, etc.)
• Compile and communicate results to supervisor
• Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogenics)
• Perform calculations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions
• Prepare and operate equipment in experimental procedures
• May include centrifuge, pH meter, spectrophotometer, autoclave, electrophoresis unit, analytical balance, HPLC, biological safety cabinets, laminar flow hoods, etc.
• Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and university guidelines.
• Ensure Laboratory is prepared for experiments
• Maintain inventories,

• Prepare reagents
• Clean equipment.
