This Child Life Specialist II provides comprehensive child life services through the Mount Sinai Parenting Center (MSPC). The Parenting Center Child Life Specialist will work in close collaboration with the MSPC team to develop and implement educational programming as part of the MSPC’s mission to transform the delivery of pediatric healthcare. This Specialist will work with the team to promote strong parent-child relationships and early child development within everyday healthcare interactions.
Provides comprehensive child life services for the Mount Sinai Parenting Center (MSPC) including:
Work within the Cohen Center for Pediatric Comprehensive Care to provide developmental education and support to providers, healthcare staff, caregivers and patients.
Implement materials and interventions supporting the "Keystones of Development" curriculum and the "Environmental Transformation Project" throughout the clinic and pediatric spaces.
Design, manage and oversee an interactive, child-friendly space that promotes developmental skills and models age appropriate play activities.
Facilitate caregiver education groups, modeling play strategies to meet developmental milestones
Create therapeutic programming to support the parent-child bond and early child development for ages 0-5
Organize community events focusing on parent-child bond and healthy development
Function as a key member of the MSPC team including collaborating on collateral materials (caregiver and provider tips, handouts, presentations etc.) and participating in ongoing MSPC initiatives.
Integrate the patient and family centered care model as a key member of the Family Advisory Council (FAC).
Respond immediately to all formal and informal consults across the pediatric hospital.
Develop and assists with projects addressing the needs of patients and families identified by the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy director and MSPC leadership team
Collaborate with Creative Arts Therapists to implement programming for caregivers and patients.
Design and implement in-services for healthcare providers across pediatric healthcare settings
Create and deliver educational content for providers and caregivers through digital platforms
· Manage and distribute donations for caregivers and patients including developmentally appropriate toys and infant/toddler clothing
· Provides supervision to volunteers and child life interns as needed.
· Maintain professional development and competency.
· Participate in individual and clinical group supervision.
· Certification as a Certified Child Life Specialist
· 2+ years experience as a child life specialist in a hospital setting.
· Fluent in Spanish
