The Department of Human Development and Family Studies invites
applications for two 9-month tenure-track appointments at the
Assistant Professor level, starting August 2026.

We seek dynamic and collegial scholars with demonstrated potential of
research productivity, high-quality teaching, and intentional service.
We encourage applications from candidates specializing in any area of
Developmental or Family Science who will complement and expand our
current departmental strengths in human development, family science,
sociocultural contexts, or young children’s early care and
education. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research
interests are interdisciplinary, sensitive to context, and/or focused
on developmental or family processes. We value quantitative,
qualitative, mixed-methods, and community engaged scholarship.
Candidates should articulate a clear research program and the
potential to secure external funding. All applicants should have a
clear commitment to teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate
levels and be able to provide rich research experiences for students.

These positions will involve a) maintaining an active and productive
research program, b) undergraduate and graduate teaching, c) advising
undergraduate and graduate students, d) seeking external research
funding, and e) providing professional and institutional service.
Candidates with scholarly expertise relevant to diverse populations
are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will demonstrate a
strong record of research achievement in developmental science or
family science, enthusiasm for teaching at undergraduate and graduate
levels, and competencies in teaching and mentoring individuals from
varied backgrounds in support of student success.

UNCG Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is ranked one of the
top HDFS graduate programs in the country. As one of nine departments
within the School of Health and Human Sciences, HDFS is a highly
collaborative, student-centered, and research-oriented department that
values interdisciplinary scholarship. Our work is centered around
developmental and family science approaches to examining multi-level

Minimum Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in the field of Human Development and Family
Studies or a closely related field such as Psychology, Sociology,
Education, Biobehavioral Health, or Public Health.
• Evidence of competence in college instruction.
• Record of scholarly publication and competence in related research
methodology.
• Strong potential to obtain external funding for research.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Record of scholarly publication representing a clear research
portfolio.
• Evidence of success in applying for or securing research funding.
• Strong methodological expertise.
• Demonstrated skills in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
• Evidence of mentoring in support of student success, including
students of diverse backgrounds (e.g., racial, socioeconomic,
first-generation, cultural).
• The potential to collaborate with colleagues around departmental
teaching, mentoring, and research activities.
