â· Consults with staff, physicians and Nurse Executive on nursing issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met.    
â· Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.           
â· Directs action toward supervision of nursing care given to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients within the surgical suite and PACU, according to nursing principles.  Ensures that Wound Care division uses Best Practices, and is in collaboration with the inpatient setting for patients, as well as for outpatient setting. Ensures Best Practices are utilized on the Med-Surg/ICU/PCU floors, stays abreast of Best Practice for Cancer Services and is in continuous survey mode for Accreditation Services such as HFAP, CMS and The Joint Commission regulatory surveys.  Also stays informed re: Emergency Medicine, Behavioral Health and Clinical Education in order to share Best Practices. 
â· Provides for safe transportation of all patients to and from Surgical Services Department.
â· Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.  Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.  Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. 
â· Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.        
â· Directs all safety measures to prevent accidents, harm or injury in any way to patient, staff or equipment.        
â· Evaluates needs for new or different items in regard to present and new trends or needs of the department.          
â· Delegates; reviews performance improvement monitoring; analyzes and evaluates Surgical Services Department to improve nursing care.   
â· Develops, revises and implements Surgical Services policies and procedures.
â· Participates in planning Surgical Services, Wound Care, Med-Surg/ICU/PCU, Cancer Services, Nursing Supervision, BH/ED/Clinical Education Dept. budgets.  
â· Provides monthly in-services.
â· Provides orientation for new Directors as needed.      
â· Plans, controls, directs and coordinates administrative duties to ensure the functioning of the department and staff.       
â· Completes evaluations and submits two weeks prior to review.  New employees are given checklists, oriented and evaluated at the end of 90 days.     
â· Reports changes of any type to Surgery staff and reports changes to departments affected by the changes (I.e., Pathology, Radiology).     
â· Demonstrates knowledge of nursing theory and management; demonstrates knowledge of disaster and emergency policies and procedures.  Keeps informed of new developments in nursing, surgery, wound care and accreditation regulations.  Demonstrates knowledge of good interpersonal relationships. 
â· Communicates job expectations; posts results of quality improvement monitoring.
â· Conducts monthly staff meetings.  Allows staff to participate in problem-solving. 
â· Ensures time sheets are accurately completed as required.  
â· Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated.  Completes projects by due date.      
â· Completes other duties as assigned by Nurse Executive, within the Board of Registered Nurses scope of nursing practice.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
• Master's degree in related field required
• At least 2 years of nursing management experience required
• At least 2 years of experience in surgical nursing required.
• Current RN licensure in the State of North Carolina required
• Culrrent BCLS certification required
• Current ACLS certification or Basic EKG or Arrhythmia identification certification required

Job Summary

Responsible for the directionof patient care within the hospital.  Manages the Director of Surgical Services, Director of Med-Surg/ICU/PCU, Manager of Wound Care, Nursing Supervisors, Director of Behavioral Health/Emergency Dept/Clinical Education, and Managers of Cancer Services.  Consults with staff, physicians and Nurse Executive on nursing issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met.  Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.  Formulates budget for departments while collaborating with those department managers.  As Administrative Director, this position interacts with the Executive Team in various meetings and has a greater responsibility fo overall operations.
