The Children’s Equity Project (CEP) in the School of Social and Family Dynamics at Arizona State University is seeking an assistant research professor/associate director of data, research, and evaluation to join our team. This is a full-time, fiscal-year, benefits-eligible appointment.  The successful candidate will have an unwavering commitment to equity and social justice and professional interests and experiences that reflect the goals and mission of the CEP. The candidate should have expertise working with complex data systems, quantitative and qualitative research experience, a strong understanding of program and policy evaluation, and experience with measurement and assessment issues. They should have experience with partnering with community organizations to conduct rigorous research. They should have strong knowledge of child development, early childhood and/or K-12 education systems; and experience with federal, state, and/or local policy. 

The individual will lead the CEP’s data, research, and evaluation strategy and work in partnership with the Executive Director to ensure that all CEP activities are aligned with the latest science. The individual will lead a team in applied policy data analysis and generating original applied research that will contribute to building more equitable learning systems for young learners. The individual will also play a key role in the CEP’s partnerships with systems leaders and policy makers and deliver individualized data analysis and policy evaluation to support effective, equitable systems-level interventions. 

This position can be located in Tempe, AZ, or remotely. 

Essential Duties:

• Leads CEP data and research strategy, including ensuring CEP is continuously engaged in conducting cutting edge applied research to advance equity in learning settings;
• Designing data analytic plans, conducting complex data analyses with various large data sets, and drawing implications for practice and policy;
• Strategically applying for research and evaluation grants that can help advance equity in learning systems.
• Ensures all CEP projects and activities are aligned with the latest science and leads evaluation of CEP training, technical assistance, and policy recommendations.
• Works closely and collaboratively with the CEP’s training and technical assistance and policy teams.
• Work with states and local communities to advance equity through individualized data analysis and policy evaluation.  
• Participate in and contribute to CEP network convenings and meetings
• Manage multiple competing priorities aligned with the CEP’s mission and goals

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in education, public policy, school psychology, social work, family and human development, or related field by time of appointment. 
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills 
• Advanced quantitative research skills
• Experience with assessment and measurement issues at the child, classroom and program level 
• Experience partnering with community based organizations to conduct rigorous, applied research 

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in qualitative research design and data analytic methods  
• Experience in policy development, implementation, or advocacy at the federal, state, or local levels 
• Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood and K-12 education equity issues
• Applied experience with children and families, including teaching or serving other applied roles in early learning of K-12 systems
